The following came in by email.
I don't know if it's an outboard or an inboard... I assume it's an ouboard but I'm not sure. Seems to have a tiller handle folded back and hinged at the bolt with the wing nut.

Your motor is an outboard motor. The engine clamps to a wood rowing boat (bateau en rames) gunwale (plat-bord) i.e.the wood rail at the top of the boat sides and the shaft drops down into the water. This style was common in Europe in the 1930's. The engine is from England I think. It is good for trolling, not much for speed. |
