I just picked up this Three Cylinder Copper Top Engine. There is no name tag or number to identify the engine. There are several features that suggest it is a performance engine. One, it has removable plugs in the exhaust system for straight exhaust pipes. Two, it has castle nuts bolting the cylinders to the base. It is of lightweight design with aluminum used for the base and intake manifold. The exhaust manifold is cast iron with a copper jacket soldered around 3/4's of the manifold (no core cast for water). It has a 1-1/2 inch 5 ball Kingston Carb and a Bosch Mag. The mag and water pump are driven by bevel gears. The pump from the rear and the mag from the front. I can send better pictures. Keith,

Great looking motor. Do you know the area it is from? Those 3 cylinder mags are a little hard to come by, too. |

Thanks for the posting an ad copy Richard. It is always nice when a neat motor, without a tag, can be identified, especially when you own it. |

Keith Haven't found any more info on your specific copper dome engine, from ads it seems that these engs came on the market mid year 1911. This is the high speed erd that preceeded it 1910 to mid 1911. These Erd 2/3 port engs had slots or ports in the sides of the pistons - the 2 port crankcase fuel went up through the piston and out into the cylinder ports ! This is the overhead valved eng that succeeded the copper domes, late 1913 or 14.

What a find! Seal it up and take it to the soda blaster for the quickest clean up. |

The black Erd is mine. It is a 1910 34 hp model which cam out of "the fastest boat on the Hudson" [River in New York], This was part of a collection of a tugboat Captain who picked up engines while he visited various ports along the said river. The engine is in almost perfect original condition and needs no restoration. Now all I need is that "fastest boat". Carbs are Holley. |
