I was doing a little loading today. try your best to identify the three motors, and extra credit for the truck. That old boat motor has been laying out in the trees for a while, I figured I better get her inside for the winter.

Well these are guesses at best
silver engine, Villers
stationary, maybe a R&V
green vertiacl head shape says Detroit or one of their sub brands
the truck could be a Datsun or ford courier/mazda
my question is did I get any of them right??? |

Roger,
Instead of Villers, think Bull, (easy)
Instead of R and V, think a Horse (really hard)
and sub brand is probably right, I just know for sure was never in a wooden boat. |

the vertical marine engine looks just like my Michigan Steel Boats Works engine. I'm missing the exhaust manifold for it but the rest looks the same. I've found out they made the engines and a steel hull launch. Mine is not restored yet but does turn over. |

Toro made their own engines from the 20's until the early 50's.

I worked at a Toro dealership during the 1970's and have never seen a Toro engine They were either Briggs or tecumseh. You live and learn |

Bill,
Original advertising literature states that the Michigan Steel Boat Co. engine was made by Detroit Engine Works and re-tagged with MSBC tag. Patent number on the tag is to the disign of their boat not the engine. Just wondering how you know that this engine was never in a boat?. or were you referring to the word Steel in name tag? The boat was built from wood and steel.
Vertical engine in front of the Datsun, 2.5hp Stationary hopper cooled Sandow made by Detroit Motor Car Supply Co. (Two Cycle).

John,
it was just a hint that it was from the Michigan Steel Boat Co. I have no history on that particular engine other than it came out of the midwest. And it laid out in my yard all summer.
And you are right on the sandow. It is missing all the injector parts, but it is still a neat and rare motor.
What do you think was the reason for the extra box on the exhaust?

Bill,
My guess would be that someone made this box in order to muffle the exhaust noise. Probably had brillo or some kind of baffle in the box with a cap on the side at one time.
Just wild a guess. Maybe someone else has a better guess?
