Looking into building a historically accurate 1920's-1930's double ended salmon troller and am wondering if anyone can tell me what type of motor they would have had. Boat would be approx 35' Any info...mucho appreciated. |

You might need to get some more information about the boat... where were they built? Was there one or two builders that built most of them?
Is there a maritime museum in the area that would have some information on the boats? |

To Barnguy from floathome Joe.
Many of the double enders along the west coast had Easthope engines. Made in Canada so most Canadian boats had them. They came in one two and three cylinders ranging from 2 to 30 hp and 50 to 1200 pounds. A 35' double ender would require the 15-18 hp engine. This is a two cylinder and weighs 1300Lbs. 150 to 650 RPM and drove a 26" prop. Easthope engine competition in the 1920 to 30 era included Vivian, Palmer, Frisbee....The 4 cycle engines were more popular with the fishermen as they idled better for trolling. As an after thought, 35 feet seems large for a troller of that era. Cheers......Joe |
