I am trying to get some information on an old four cylinder "T" head Palmer engine.This engine was installed in a 38'Great South Bay sloop (LI) and would now be about 100 years old. The bore and stroke were 5 1/2 x 5 or vice versa and developed 40 HP or so I was told. It had pet-cocks on each cylinder head for priming, etc.
I am writing a story about this boat and would appreciate any information, thanks Joe S. |

Thanks for the kind words Bob. I don't know as I am the most knowledgeable person on Palmer but I have dug up a lot of probably very useless data that won't pay the fuel bill for one trip to town but it has been a lot of fun. The best part of this hobby is meeting a lot of folks with this similar strange interest in antique marine engines and boats.
I must add a lot of collectors over the years have fowarded parts, publications and comments that have been a real help in putting this stuff together. I have long believed if you don't look back how do you know you are going ahead???
I sent a note to Joe S. suggesting his engine is the classic ZR-4 and gave him a few ideas what to look for such as ZR on the forward face of the lower cylinder skirt. Hope he has a serial number. |
