Just wondering who has done this and how they like it and if they feel it was worth the time and money. I am looking at the product offerd by http://www.geneseeproducts.com/. Thanks in advance. |

FYI...Moyer Marine offers an electronic ignition kit for the Atomic 4, part #IGEM_12_37, as well as a ready-to-use replacement unit, part #IGEM_13_56.0 (find 'em here: http://www.moyermarine.com/cgi-bin/shopper.cgi?search=action&category=IGEM&keywo rds=all&template=Templates/B000_storebuilder.html) Both engines (the early Atomic 4 and the M-60) used the Prestolite distributor, so I suspect you could also use this on the M-60. Based on what I'm reading on the Genesee site, these may be the same product. Brent |

Feed back from people that have them on P-60s is good. It's not that great of an advantage though. Others and myself prefer to carry on with points and condenser, carrying spare points and condenser onboard for emergencies. If you go to Genesee you'll want the Autolite/Prestolite one. |

I installed the Genesse kit on my M-60 this spring and it is great. No more points to adjust and you can eaisly locate the instant the spark fires with a simple 12v detection lamp by rotating the distributor. Helped trememdously when trying to set the inital timing at TDC. Engine also runs much smother and idles better than before. I also opted for the internal ballast/resistor coil which made installation easier for me. |

I've had the electronic ignition and the internal-ballast coil from Gennessee for three years now, which because I'm on a river would come out to almost 2000 miles, maybe 400 hours. I couldn't be happier with it. I can say for certain that in the 30 years I've been sailing this same boat, I've never before had three years in a row where the boat started instantly in the spring and ran well. Two points that might be useful - you will probably need to sand or file a little bit off the bottom of the distributor rotor or the rotor will stand a little too high in the cap. This is a known issue. Also, since you have to replace the base plate, go further and make sure that the centrifugal advance mechanism isn't all frozen up - mine was, but it loosened up fine with some penetrating oil and then ordinary lubrication. |
