I'm looking information on the antique L model Cummins engine. I think this engine was manufactured in the 1940's. Engine specifications like bore and stroke; size dimensions and weight; fuel system type; any production development information. I tried the Cummins site, but no luck there, just the current production stuff. A good web site tip would be appreciated or any of the above information. Thank you bjr |

CUMMINS model L was made in small numbers, mainly to order. Two came to Australia and were coupled to gen-sets powering an iron ore mine in the Northern Territory (Mt. Bundy) they both went in landfill. in 1974. my info from Lyle Cummins himself.Enginenut, I hope you havn't forgotten my 51 series info????? |

Ray, Havn't forgotten, just keep finding things to add, as you will see.I also see a v-12 with the same B&S as the model L listed as Cummins largest engine in the "Diesel Engine Catalog" of 1937.Described as being for Railway power.I think the 6 cyl is the engine I viewed installed in a switcher on display in French Lick,Indiana about 10 years ago.A nice neat and compact appearing engine for the day.It used a early version of the Cummins unit injector (PT)system which enclosed much and left very little external piping.French Lick is the home of the Indiana Railway Museum and what an intresting little town with an awesome old Hotel from bygone years. |

I have a cummins parts catalog for a L series engine There was an L cummins in a Lima shovel that was used to start the excavation in Kitimat B.C. for Alcan in the early 1950s. when I get home in a few days I could scan and email some pages to you. Terry |

I am aquainted with Cummins LI-6 engines that were installed in the UUS Bullwheel YO-46 built in Superior, Wisconsin into service in 1942. I operated these engines as auxillay power units attched to 100KW/DC generators. I left the ship in April, 1950 in Subic Bay PI [email protected] |
