The first letter L is correct !
But not a Lloyd, the two Lloyds i've seen had a curved thin casting in the top of the block for the unique diamond shaped brass timer detent lever.

Lozier? I don't know anything about them, but it looks like the poppet valves on this engine are cam operated, they were a limiting factor before reed valves. When I had the 4hp single Lockwood Ash in my boat I replaced the stock poppet valve with a titanium one, made from a bent automotive racing valve, gained 50 rpms. |

This four cylinder Lloyd (Thousand Island Engine Co as I recall) is the style Lloyd I'm used to seeing. Must be a later model. This picture was a 35MM I shot at the Upstate NY show in Canandaigua in 1982. |

I haven't seen a LLoyd like this one, what a great looking Engine, oilers on the intake manifolds, The H type scheblers ! any year of mfgr?? |

I don't know the year.
As I recall it was represented as "1905" when I bought it, but I don't recall how (or if) that was detirmined.
It is a nice engine, 8HP... 2HP per jug. I don't recall what the bore is but it's small.
I've seen a similar 4 cylinder model of slightly larger bore. |

I'm reading the book Oregon Wolf (pacific Coast powerboat racing 1904-1927)by Don Peterson. There's mention of a Leighton powered racer imported from the east to attempt to beat the Oregon Wolf series of boats equipped with a Smalley engines.The Leighton engine later even incorporated in tandem with a Scripps in a fruitless effort to defeat the "Wolf". The Oregon Wolf II was powered (Heads up Keith!) with 250 HP in line nine cylinder Smalley! Nine big Scheblers and also three Holleys manifolded on the third ports ala Pierce Budd style(3rd port manifolds very simular to the 3cyl P-B. |
