Can anyone help me figure out why the valves of my 1963 427 would float at about 2100 rpm's? Did they have valve spring problems? Was this common? Thanks

If I may ask how do you know the valves are floating?
Are you sure you don’t have carboned or sticking valves and guides causing this problem?

If your valves are floating at 2,100rpm in a known sound engine they are either the wrong springs, it has a few broken springs, springs are not set to correct install height, or they were heated up so hot as to take the temper out of them.

Has the motor been worked on since the problem started?

When we build race engines with very high valve spring pressures we usually just install a set of stock springs and then only the outer spring to break in the cam . In this condition the engines can’t be revved above about 3,000 rpm with out floating the valves.

These are just my opinions
