Does anyone know of a source for replacements of these types of filler plugs?

Hugh,
The one on the right looks pretty common ... Starbolt, Hit & Miss, Magneto Parts(Bill Lopoulos), Lee Pederson should have them. The finer thread plugs are not available but female thread in lubricator top can be rethreaded with a coarser tap. Not entirely correct but much cheaper than have new plugs made! The one on the left looks like one from a Powell Viking. You will probably have to find someone to make that one. Going to Blaine's next weekend? |

Thanks. I will check those sources for the hex head type of filler plug. There are several sources of the common round filler plugs, I guess I just haven't noticed the hex head type for sale. American Lubricator used the hex head type shown in the photo. Michigan Lubricator used a hex head at times but the neck on the Michigans was longer and slimmer than the Americans. You are right, the other one is from a Powell Viking. I have several Vikings but only one correct filler plug. Looks like I will have to buy a lathe and milling machine and learn how to do a little machining (wish me luck with that enterprise, Mama already thinks I have too many toys that take up too much space). I will visit Blaine's show for a few minutes next weekend. Work still gets in the way of play. |
