Just heard today that dennis point marina is selling out.They were operating for over 40 years.Supposed to be lots of nautical stuff includeing brass portholes.The one big problem is,OH NO the sale is may 6th.I can post the auction site when they put the sale up. |

Sorry Ernie but this is one lead I don't think you want to waste time on. Went down this morning and talked with a man very knowledgeable about the place. Walked around and all I saw was relativly modern junk. The marina opened in 1967 so it is not one of those almost all now gone Chesapeake Bay boatyards dating back to the 1850s. I saw a few what appeared to be huge rusty reverse/reduction gears for boats in the 50 foot plus class. A number of engines in the truck engine class of the period 1950 and later. There were no antique engines or outboards of any kind in site although the man did mention one late Gray. They had just gotten rid of a number of Palmer P-60s. Don't know if they were junkers or sold for parts. If you need a boat lift, truck crane, rusted out Post WWII miltary truck, beat up travel trailers and I mean beat up, rusted out outboards of the post 1960s, nothing that I would consider of interest to antique engine or outboard collectors. A number of fiber glass presumably close to junker hulls I don't want to be too critical but I did not see one item that would interest me. The man showing me around said that had a few brass port holes and possible a brass binnacle. I did not see either.
Myself I would not go to the auction even if it were not on the 6th as what I saw didn't impress me as of great interest to pack rats like us.
I am glad Larry tipped us off about this as you never know what may be found at auctions like this. In this case I am sure current marina owners may have interest in the auction but I don't see it as a likely antique engine interest event. I could be wrong but thought I better check it out to save a lot of "If I had only been there" !!!! Best I can offer. |

Glad you went now i won't have to.I have been trying to get a listing from the auctioner with no luck.He is known for lumping large lots of stuff together so he can finnish quicker.Did you see the black push boat with the caged proppler? |

Got a listing for auction and i tryed to send it to andrew for posting.It has listed a tugboat with 453 gm engine.I wonder if that was the black boat i saw last year.A friend tells me they have a bunch of artic cat atv's from last year that are still in the shipping crates.It looks like a plenty going on that day and to top it all there is an antique engine auction in crownsville. |
