Anybody have the valve tappet clearances from an MD1 engine offhand? I did have an entire engine specification sheet for this motor but has faded with the years.

Hi, From the Workshop Manual.
Adjusting the valves.
After the cylinder head and cylinder block have been assembled, the valves are adjusted before the engine is started. Watch the valves while turning the crankshaft with the manual starter. When the inlet valve starts to open and the outlet valve closes, the O-mark on the flywheel is at the top as shown in Fig. 19. Then turn the crankshaft one more turn forward and adjust the valve clearance on this cylinder. Repeat the same procedure for the other cylinder.
With a warm engine, the clearance should be 0.30 mm (0.12") for the inlet valve and 0.35 mm (0.14") for the exhaust valve.
Next paragraph says not to make adjustments while the engine is running.
Adjustment is carried out by means of a slotted screw which is secured by a locknut.

Hi everyone,
I just looked critically at the workshop manual that I have. The numbers are listed as .12" and .014". After doing the conversions from the metric equivalents that are also listed, everyone but me is correct. I have corrected my copy of the service manual to read .012"/.014". Thanks for keeping us on the right heading.
