I'm thinking of replacing the ignition switch on my boat as I've been having spark problems. I read on an older thread that Eddie suggested this was a common culprit. The old one is a 3 position switch with 3 lugs marked Bat, Sol and Ign. There are two wires on each of the Battery and Ignition terminals and one on the Solenoid. The replacement switch I bought has 5 terminals marked B, M, S, A, and G. I figure that B is battery, M is likely magneto, S is solenoid, A is accessories? and G is ground. Battery and solenoid seem fairly obvious, but what about the one wire to ignition? Should the new ignition be grounded through the G terminal even though the old one wasn't? Is it OK to leave the M terminal open? Thanks.

P.S. Richard: I wrote down my engine serial number for you, but left it on the boat. I'll try and remember it for tomorrow.

No don't ground any of the hot wires.I normally hook up the bat wire and the s then turn the switch on and use a test light to find which are hot.
