I'm thinking of replacing the ignition switch on my boat as I've been having spark problems. I read on an older thread that Eddie suggested this was a common culprit. The old one is a 3 position switch with 3 lugs marked Bat, Sol and Ign. There are two wires on each of the Battery and Ignition terminals and one on the Solenoid. The replacement switch I bought has 5 terminals marked B, M, S, A, and G. I figure that B is battery, M is likely magneto, S is solenoid, A is accessories? and G is ground. Battery and solenoid seem fairly obvious, but what about the one wire to ignition? Should the new ignition be grounded through the G terminal even though the old one wasn't? Is it OK to leave the M terminal open? Thanks.
P.S. Richard: I wrote down my engine serial number for you, but left it on the boat. I'll try and remember it for tomorrow. |

No don't ground any of the hot wires.I normally hook up the bat wire and the s then turn the switch on and use a test light to find which are hot. |
