Ah Yes!! The famous Tuttle "X" racing engine. Had dual ignition (magneto and coil) and dual plugs. Had a gear driven side rotary valve. Rated at 1000 RPM. I actually traded away one of these twin cylinder engines very, very early in my engine collecting days and was sorry (VERY sorry) later. |

I have an original 1899 Tuttle catalog showing the really tall (long throw) engines equipped with mixers. I also have 1 copy of a 1907 patent application from DM Tuttle for a crankcase pressure operated, self regulating fuel injection system for an inboard. Oldest Tuttle picture I have is probably an 1899 engine with Lunk. style mixer. (Sure wish Santa would bring me a nice 2 cylinder Tuttle for Christmas) |

On the front page of OME click the Tuttle link. It is the same as above. The engine in the pics was mine and now belongs to Andrew. |

Tom Good post, very interesting engine. Stromberg B carb, Is the catalog dated about 1910-11 ? Ernie your old engine appears to be an older model and has a different carb on it ? The Stromberg Type B glass bowl carb |
