I have a very early Imperial 5 Hp single cylinder, two cycle marine engine made in Canada. Has bronze sea water pump and bronze carburetor, drive shaft and screw. The serial No. is 6275. Can anyone tell me about when this engine was manufactured and would it be considered rare?? |

I am not familiar with an Imperial from Canada. Do you know where it was made in Canada?
There was an Imperial Gas Engine Company in San Francisco making an Imperial engine. Merged with Atlas according to Stan Grayson's Old Marine Engines.

Thanks Andrew, according to Stan Grayson's 'Old Marine Engines' it was made by Bruce Stewart & Co LTD in Charolttetown, Canada. It is a make and break engine that looks a lot like the Acadia 4Hp in the Grayson book. The bronze carburetor construction looks like the Schebler in the Grayson book. The bronze sea water pump runs on an eccentric behind the flywheel. I was unable to attach a picture to my listing, but can e-mail you one if I had your address.

I have come accross a single cylinder Mianus Motor which appears to be complete except for a missing carburetor and a cracked exhaust elbow casting. The copper tag is in the shape of a shield and reads"The Mianus Motor Works".."Mianus Conn"..."USA"..."No 10422".."HP 5". The serial no and HP are die stamped into the tag. The flywheel has spokes and the general configuration is very close to the post 1906 version of this engine.
Is the "Mianus, Conn" location enough to age this motor before 1912?
Does anyone know what the carburetor and intake looked like on this engine?
Does anyone have a carb and exhaust elbow?

Mianus ads say that they made engines beginning in 1896, and they were in Mianus Conn untill 1913 when they moved operations to Stamford Conn.
Possible to post each side photos and one of the tag ? if trouble posting here e-mail to me I'll post them and try to get info on your engine.
If no photos then is the exhaust manifold wet or dry ? are the inspection covers on crankcase round or square / rectangle ??

Hi, I am Jay Price in Sheffield uk. I have just purchased a MIANUS single cylinder petrol marine engine in working order. Water cooled expansion type exhaust ( not fitted yet ) Will supply pics. soon. Have original handbook with unit. Foreward & reverse cone clutch open gearbox. Any info. will be much appreciated. |

I think that Imperial were manufactured in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island |
