I read a past post that mentioned a carburetor leveling wedge. I have not seen any evidence of a wedge when i removed my carburetor nor did I notice two paper gaskets. There seemed to be only one gasket and the carburetor looked level. Is it possible that mine does not need this wedge? Is this wedge included in the carb rebuild kit? Also I was wondering where I might find the carb spec adjustment sheet. Any info would be great. |

I think what you are refering to is a conversation about replacing an existing Zenith 61 series carbuerator with a Zenith 68 series. |

Some people with P-60s are going to the aluminium bobied series 68 carbuerator. Seem to like it better. |

The typical M-60 AKA P-60 came with the zenith 61 series carburetor and a leveling wedge was mounted between the carburetor and the manifold intake flange. Its purpose is to reduce the tilt angle when underway so the float maintains a reasonable level of fuel in the carburetor. If your engine is essential level you can run without it. Too often lazy mechanics drop it in the bilge and it never goes back in place. I have given away the last one I had and they guy never thanked me for it so I don't know if it fixed his problem or not. What is your problem with the 61? They work well and there are a lot of them around. |

I'd rather not replace the carburetor because mine worked ok up until the time I removed it. I've got the rebuild kit and planned to rebuild and reinstall it, but the past post about the wedge concerned me. I did not see one when I removed the carburetor, but I also wasn't looking for it. I bolted it to the intake flange and it looked relatively level. The engine itself is in a 1973 30' Islander MKII and sits pretty level. What do you think? Thanks |

Has the engine been running fine before you began to have troubles? Forget the wedge if it has it isn't likly to be the source of your troubles if is had been running ok. I think you probably have not cleaned all the carburetor passages enough and that is your real problem. |

What should the fuel pump rating be? The manual states that the float is preset to be fed at 2 psi. Would a 2.75-4 psi pump be alright? |

Oh yeah, I did find that levelling wedge. I just didn't notice it because it was stuck to the manifold. |

I would think the pump would work fine. I use one on a P60 without any problem whatsoever. The P60 has the same Zenith 61 carb. In fact, I use a special-order Facet pump that generates an extra pound or two of pressure because I was having delivery problems. It turned out that I had a poor connection on my ground strap, and that the standard pump would have been fine. But, I kept the beefier pump and the engine has run perfectly. Rich |

Does anyone have an electronic version of a manual or diagram exploding a carburetor for a P-60? I am considering rebulding mine but am new to this stuff and am hoping to find a good manual or diagram to work with. With help from this discussion board, I found that my local parts house carries the rebuild kit for around $30 vs. having someone rebuild it for around $250. Any idea how much time is typically involved in rebuilding using the NAPA kit? |

I am trying to find a 7-12 deg carb wedge that will adapt a Holley 4160 series to a HP manifold with a Q jet bolt pattern. Do you know of such a animal? I was thinking about getting a adapter and machining it into a wedge , is that realistic? |
