I have a Palmer P-60 that seems to run great but there are times where I cannot get over to start her up for weeks at a time. It seems like everytime I go back, it is very difficult to get her to start. I am not the most knowledgable about engines but trying to learn. It seems like I have to hire a mechanic to come over just to get the engine started but I don't see him doing any thing specific each time... just "tinkering with the engine" and then lo-and-behold it starts right up and runs great. As long as I get over and start her up every few days, she does fine... but then the next time I go back over after a few weeks... same trouble. Any recommendations as to how to approach this so I can learn how to get her started without getting a mechanic out evertime? Thanks! |

You have to use a manual choke so be sure that you are using it properly. High quality spark plug wires, custom made high performance racing type, can help improve quick starting as well as over all good performance and safety. The rest of the ignition system should be kept up to snuff. Note that the distributor cap and rotor should be replaced every year. Be sure to use anti-sieze on the threads of spark plugs when installing new spark plugs. |

Could it be that your battery is discharging somehow when you leave the boat without running it for extended periods? Also, why not just ask the mechanic what he does? |
