I own a old 25 foot boat planeing hull, I run my engine anywhere from 2900 rpm to 3200 rpm. Does this seem to high for one of these engines. Has anybody had any experince with one of these engines in the past or present. Is this Rpm to high for it, and am I going to hurt something sooner or later |

Some old-timers I know that have run Crowns for 50 years swear by 2700- 3200 is a a little high maybe, but you can always play with your prop pitch to slow it down a bit- like another old guy said, "Run it!!" |

I found that anything over about 2800 rpm on these toque-y engines isn't good. You'll end up with burned exhaust valves. I agee that 3200 is a bit much miro |

As with all marine engines it depends on how heavily you are loading it at that rpm. If you are running a small pitch prop and it will turn much faster wide open you may be alright at that rpm. Rule of thumb for planing hull with an old L head is maximum cruising rpm should be no more than 75% of wide open throttle rpm at your given load. Obviously the load can change depending on people aboard and gear that day. |

Thanks guys, I have been toying around for a while and there is not much of a speed diff between 2700 3200 rpm, and 2700 is about 75% of max rpm. So I will run this engine an 2700 rpm and see what is looks like when I tear it down for service. once again thanks. |

I HAVE HEARD THAT, IN THE VERY FINAL PRODUCTION OF THE CHRYSLER CROWNS, AN ADAPTATION WAS MADE TO FIT AN ALTERNATOR IN PLACE OF THE THE GEAR DRIVEN GENERATOR. ANYONE EVER SEEN THIS SETUP. ANY IDEA WHERE TO FIND ONE? |

just leave the wore out one in the hole and add another to the back of the engine. There are many jabso pedistal pumps that can be mounted that way. |

I have a complete matched pair of counter-rotating crown engines (with transmissions) out of an old 40's-era Richardson. They are sitting in my garage in the Seattle area. Free to a good home (hopefully with someone who has the time to clean them up). I'm moving and I'm out of time on this project. They have to go in the next 3 weeks or they will find their way to the local wrecking yard. I'mot interested in parting them out, but all the parts are there, including the original Zenith carbs which alone could justify the effort of picking up the pair. Call me or email if you want them.
