Universal model C, 4 cyl inboard, circa 1920. Pits in cylynder wall, corresponding to the top and
bottom circumferemces of piston. Pistons not moved for half a century.
Can somebody reach down in their bag of trips and give me a solution that doen't involve reboring etc?
Will pits fill up with carbon or tear up the rings?
Does anyone know the where about of a Lozier Launch called "daisy", featured in Stan Grayson's book? |

I moved your posting here to the Universal category.
Universal C:
You will first have to move the pistsons and get full access to the bore. You are going to have to start soaking them in penetrating oil and plan some strategies to move them. You can look at many previous postings here about various methods.
If the bore is badly pitted I don't think you will have many alternatives other than sleeving it.
Lozier - Daisy:
I visited the owner in New Hampshire about 5 - 6 years ago. I assume he still has it. You can send me an email if you want some contact info for him. BTW there is a Lozier Launch at the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum in Ferrisburgh Vermont. Also you can do a search of "Lozier" on this board. There are other Loziers in New Hampshire and New York. |
