The best thing about being single, is you get to buy yourself a birthday present once a year. this is mine. Does anyone have a picture from an ad or catalog to show the oiler, timer, or manifolds?

Happy Birthday Bill, nice find. That one should steal the show when it's running.

yes, I have a 21 hp 3 cylinder, with a camel on the nametag. This one is just a tad easier to move. Was the only marine engine owned by a guy named Max Campbell. it will look great running with the side plates off.

Outstanding find Bill. I think I recall seeing a restored 4cyl Campbell in a custom built(new) launch in the Muskoka's North of Toronto a few years back - Miro can confirm this If my recollection is correct.

The boat that I am familiar with, that has a 4 cylinder exposed crankcase engine , is called Lightning. But I don't think it is a Campbell.
I recall that it had a very carefully fitted seet of sheet metal shields, to contain the oil. In spite of that , the deck is treeacherous to walk on, after a nice run. I recall that it was direct drive, and went real real fast and had a torpedo stern.
Haven't seen it recently, though

Bill

Super present, It'll look great next to the 3 cylinder !

Looked through all info I have and no photo ads of a single cyl Campbell !

Taking notes while looking at many Campbell ads seems the camel logo (may) have come about in 1908, for sure by 1909.

The new find single appears the older of the two engs, the lack of the Camel logo on the tag and the lower serial number.

Campbell production started in 1903 the single serial is #186, (if) they numbered their engs consecutively and started with 1, it could be 186th eng made by Campbell? The triples serial is #485 or 299 engines later production, in an earlier posted discussion the 3 cylinder eng looked to be 1908-10, the single using the same supposition would date 1906-07 or earlier ???

Does anyone know of or have a Campbell eng or file photos with serial numbers ?? Any catalogs ??

Beautiful, and amazing that tag survived the 'jackdaws' with those tempting screws holding it on!

Robert, I probably would not have bought either of my Campbells without the nameplate, it cost me though, they went for a premium.

And that last picture reminds me, I had to replace the wood decking on that trailer after those wheels went through the rotten wood. I think I broke my ramps, too. That engine at the time was heavier than I could easily move, I had a bad time getting it over the hump from my gravel driveway into the garage. I am glad I bought it, but it was lucky I didn't hurt myself, and now I have the right equipment to move heavy stuff.

I remember that second photo well Bill. That's 3/4 of a ton at least I guess? The camel logo was a play on the word Campbell was it? How many engines did Campbell make and do you know the dates on yours?
