I have removed the gear box from the crank and a brass bearing fell out that goes in the gear thst fitts in the reverse gear, it had a mark on it showing key was there but nothing like that was around the area. is this key really needed. Another thing Does anyone know the instalation angle of the Scripps 30 series which is an IXB like the Chris-Craft model B and Buchanan Jr.4 Thank You |

The key probably fell in to the goo in the bottom of the casing when you took the gear out. If there is a keyway, this pretty much tells you there was once a key to fit in it. I think there is a Chris Craft web site where you can ask about the shaft angle. Any boat, even in grey wood condition usually has an angle already cut into the engine beds as well as angles for the prop shaft indicated by the angle on the shaft brackets. |
