Hi. I broke the cylinder head priming cup off while moving the engine into the basement. Can anyone advise cost/availability? Tks. Max. |

If it is one of the later engines it is just a petcock, with a 1/8" NPT male thread on one end and a female on the other, with a cup threaded into the female end. Is this what you have and where did it break? Perhaps you could just get another petcock and thread the cup into it. Getting the broken stub out of the head is going to be a bit more tricky. Get a hacksaw blade and grind it down at the tip to about 3/16" deep for about 1" back from the tip. Wrap with tape, cloth, whatever. Hang the engine upside down from the rafters so the filings remain close to the hole instead of dropping onto the top of the piston. Then insert hacksaw into the broken off stub and cut it into two (or four if necc.) pieces and carefully pry out. You will probably have to cut into the threads in the cylinder slightly, that won't matter. Having removed the stub in pieces, rotate the flywheel so that the inlet port is exposed and vacuum as much as you can out the hole. Then stick the plastic tube from a can of WD40 up the hole and hose er out good eh! After the WD40 drains put a good squirt of oil in the cylinder and spin her over a bit. Screw in your new priming cup and enjoy. Of course you could do the cutting before hanging the engine from the rafters; then you'd just have to hose her out better after. |

Thanks Robert. (See Andrew's post of Nov.16/04 for picture.) The cup broke off flush with the top of the square portion on top of the cylinder head. I'll follow your suggestion to remove the remaining threaded end. What does, "NPT", stand for? Do you think mine is like the one you describe? Tks.Max. |

"NPT" is national pipe thread. Your priming cup is 1/8 NPT
