I am sure we all want to wish our LA engine friends and their families good luck and hang in there in the face of this serious hurricane. For all the people of that area we can only hope and pray they survive with as little damage as possible. |

I want to second Dick Days wishes and prayers ! 36 years ago Hurricane Camille rounded Cuba headed north and struck the Gulf coast, it recorded a 9.09 millibar air pressure at the eye, a 22ft tidal surge and deastating winds and rain. President Nixon called in federal troops and the Governor declared martial law. To this day it's still considered the most extreme meteorological event ever to take place in North America. Hurricane Katrina looks to be a clone, 10:30 AM today the millibar pressure in the eye at altitude is 9.07 ( second lowest ever recorded in history in U.S ) and winds approaching 190 Mph. Batten down the hatches and buckle up, this one is nature at its worst ! |

Makes the blow we are preparing for down here on the south coast of Western Australia seem very minor. I am spending the morning battening down ,picking up all those loose items thats about all you can do. But to evacuate your home is a different matter.........hope you all come out of Katrina safe and well. |

Thanks for the many kindly words of concern for the Louisiana gang! I evacuated 100 miles to the West and returned home Monday to no real damage. Sixty miles to the East is a very different story, as you continue to see on the news. |
