My M-60 is leaking oil from the water pump drive shaft and Im not sure why. The oil seeps out while the engine is running and then the rate increases after the engine stops. I have taken off the bearing that attaches to the bottom of the distributor through which the pump drive shaft goes. I cant figure out what is supposed to seal the oil in. The shaft goes through a steel bearing that I presume is not designed to keep the oil in. Behind the bearing I found a thick rubber bushing/washer whose ID is much bigger than the diameter of the drive shaft. Can anyone tell me what mechanism is supposed to prevent oil leaking out from around pumps drive shaft and therefore give a clue on how to fix my problem? I didnt notice this problem before rebuilding the engine. My rebuild did not touch this mechanism so I dont know whats going on. Any advice would be much appreciated. |
