Hi there,
I'll keep it short since I don't see activity here for the last 7-8 years.
I recently acquired a 1930's hayscow/sloop that had a Hicks EY 2 cylinder motor added in the 2000's.
It ran ten years ago, and they're known for lasting and starting after being long abandoned.
I'm looking for a place to post questions and report about my findings. I come from a family and community of mechanics, but am very green myself, using this project as an excuse to learn...finally.
First up is the spark box, not working/ needs fixing or replacing....not alot comes up when i search spark box on the internet. Is there another word for it...a more modern one? If i could understand what it even is I could get somewhere.
Is there a more active forum anyone would recommend for what I'm up to?

Abbie,
Try posting a picture of the engine also. That is just a coil, hook it up to the battery positive and the other end to the insulated post on the igniter. The battery grounded to the engine. When the igniter contacts snap open, they will should spark. Do some searches for make and break ignition systems.

Jim's got it right.
It's just a coil that makes a spark when the contacts on the ignitor open - hence the name make-and-break. It would be great to see some engine pictures |
