Andrew, Mike Adams here. I need your's and the discussion board's advice on where to go to get the bearings rebabbited on this Thrall engine. The crank journals measure about 1.100, and I need 2 full round bearings and 1 split. I am hoping to find someone in the northeastern U.S. if possible, as I am from the Rochester,N.Y. area. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike Adams |

Mike, I can give you a couple of names, but I don't have personal experience with either one. Alec Giaimo Babbitt Bearing Service 53A Perry Street Redwood City, CA 94063 (415) 366-8086 I realize that he is in CA, but he apparently comes east often for restorations. I met him a year or two ago when he was on Long Island doing bearings for a marine engine. The other is: Antique Engine Rebuilding 4835 Louise Skokie, IL 60077 (847) 674-6716 I don't know anything about him other than he advertises that he specializes in babbitt bearings. I got his card at Hershey a couple of years ago. I'm sure there are people that are closer, maybe someone else will pitch in with a suggestion. The other option is to try it yourself. The difficult part is the set-up. Actually pouring the babbitt is not very hard. Lindsay Publications sells one or more books on it. Good luck. Regards, Andrew |

I have used the following guy to grind the crankshaft and have him rebabbit the bearings on the mains and the con rod. His main business is large diesel and industrial crankshafts but he likes to do the smaller jobs on old engines as a side interest. He also can build up shafts with chrome plating and regrind to size for you. The added advantage is the US - CDN exchange rate. I know that he services the market from Newfoundland to British Columbia as well as the NE USA and knows how to deal with shipping and handling. He is John Sciberras Canadian Chromeplating and Cankshaft Inc 55 Torbarrie Rd Toronto Ont M3L 1G5 416-249-7495 1-800-265-5725 As a reference you can use my name - Miro Forest or my buddy - Paul Dodington ( who is the godfather of DisPro engines). If you ever get a chance to visit Toronto - you really need to go to visit his shop - it's GOOD! He'll take good care of you. miro |
