I have a johnson seahorse 2 43cc about 20 years old that will start fine run for about 10 mins and then stop the water pump seems to be in good order and working can any one suggest anything?.
i was also thinking of taking the float bowl (bottom) off of the carb to clean it out will loads of bits go flying out and seals fall apart or is it all neatly held in with rubber seals?.
Also does anyone know if it should have an air filter inside the black plastic surround to the carb mouth and what it should look like - mine doesnt and being used to bikes i find that odd although i supppose there is not much dust on water! |

Dollar to doughnuts, I'll bet you have a bad coil. Usually a crack develops in the secondary winding which shorts it out and the spark quits. Frequently the problem doesn't manifest itself when the engine is cold, but once it heats up and all the parts expand, the crack opens and that's it. Check if there is a spark when the engine is up to full temp. I'd replace the coil on general principles anyway. They are not eternal. I don't recall if the little 2hp are fully shrouded. Most of the o/b of that era had a little plastic grille over the carb mouth. Earlier engines did have filters to keep out water spray or other undesirable object. I was running my 1947 Johnson OK once and was mopping up a gas leak when the open carb sucked up a whole j-cloth. The engine didn't like that very much. |
