Hi,

Can anybody tell me where to find replacement oil filters for the Perkins SM6 engine please? Built around 1965, I am presetnly unsure if they are the replacement element or canister type.

With thanks,

Tony

Thanks Larry,

What sort of info do you need (apart form the obvious cartridge / canister question)?
The only engine number I can find is 4044294 - some people say that is an incomplete number, but that's all I have.

I may also be able to get the Perkins part number for the filter housing where it bolts onto the block. Would that help?

Kind regards,

Tony

If its a 354 the old serial numbers start with 354, newer numbers start with letters at least 2. The letters tell which country and the year the engine was made. There should be a serial number at the base of the verticle injector pump on the engine. If you don't have the vertical pump you have a differant engine. I thought at one time i found a listing for the sm6 and it was a 6 cylinder version of the 318 engine which has the injector pump mounted horizontially. The filters for this engine changed over the years they were built,i have 3 differant filters on the engines that i have. If it were an american built engine i would go to the local massy fergason dealer and they could match it.
