I am just starting to round up information about a 4 cyl motor I saw that was used as a marine engine. The facts as I know them are:
1. 4 cyl
2. Based on half of a 460 Ford motor
3. The cyl head and internal parts from the 460 would bolt on or in.
What I don't know is:
1. Under what name is it manufactured?
2. Is it still made?
3. If it is still made who sells them?

Hi Jim , the MERCRUISER 224cid used a sleeved aluminum block with a 460 head and delco ign.Bore 4.36 (same) but stroke 3.75 instead of 3.85 in the 460. The head is the same and they were popular on high end boats in the 80's .I run one in my Formula a H.O."488" 470's 485's and 170mr&190mr are the mercruiser designations .Rich |

The 3.75 inch stroke is the same as the 429 Ford V8 which was the predecessor of the 460. 429's used the same bore and rod length as the 460 with the difference in stroke accounted for by a different (lower) pin height in the piston, so I believe 429 pistons would also work in this block. |
