Just aquired a 1 cyl Model 3 Cady and need some help as this is my first 2 cycle marine engine. First, does anyone have any manuals or liteature on this engine? Next, the tag say 1 pt oil per 5 gallons gas. What type of modern oil is suitable? Last need help with setup of Monarch card and timing Look forward to hearing from you, John Stewart |

Don't use modern two-cycle oil. Use SAE 30 non-detergent thoroughly mixed. 40:1. One pint to five gallons. Which type Monarch? Do you have mixer or float feed carburetor? Set timing at center range on top dead center of the stroke. |

Richard, Thanks, you confirmed my theory on the oil. The carb has what looks like the remains of a cork float. So I guess i need to figure out where to get or make a float. Do you know if these engines came with a crank, or would you have to work flywheel? Thanks, John |

I have a Cady about 3 hsp I guess. It has no provision for a crank. You start these ancient two cycle engines by rocking against a retarded spark and the engine will fire and run in the opposite direction. You can get Schebler Model D floats from Paul Gray in Elkton, MD. He makes modern floats using the type plastic that modern carburetor floats are made from. |
