HAVE BRONZE GEAR DRIVEN PUMP WITH GREASE CUPON A PALMER PW27. I AM TOLD THEY USE TO MAKE A GREASE (VERY THICK) FOR THIS PURPOSE. DO THEY STILL MAKE IT. IF NOT WHAT IS A GOOD SUBSTITUTE AND WHERE CAN IT BE PUCHASED. FUNCTION OF GREASE TO INITIATE PRIME.GREASE I AM USING NOW IS TOO THIN AND WASHES OUT READILY THUS I HAVE TO FILL CUP OFTEN. |

Have a gear pump on inboard for water circulation(Belt driven)and use plumber's grease for it and the shaft packing cup. Nice thick stuff available at any big hardware store. |
