Hi, I currently have a MD5A ('70s vintage), and wish to replace it with a 2001 (model, not year) 9hp, but retain the original 110S saildrive. Is this possible? The 2001 uses the 120S leg, which is clearly quite different the mating surface is wider for one. Is the splined shaft on each motor the same size (with same # of splines)? I can alternatively also get my hands on the gearbox section of the 120S, and potentially mate this to the 110S leg only. This would meet at the rubber diaphram, which looks to be the same size. Would the holes line up? Any idea which of this two ideas is more realistic. Are there adaptor plates available to do this. My local dealer doesn't seem to know... |

daniel, If you don't get a response here, you could try the volvo penta catagory on the board at MarineEngine.com. Those engines are kind of "new" for this board... |
