Last year I saw a 2 cyl Hicks and was curious as to how old it was. It was an open crankcase like a Frisco Standard and the cam ran parallel to the crankshaft. It had a brass tag riveted to the cyl. which read " J L Hicks San Franscisco Cal." Any Ideas as to how Old??? |

The multi cylinder "Yuba Hicks" or "New Style", with cam parallel to the crank and somewhat squareish heads and cylinders, came in in 1925 when Yuba Manufacturing bought the Hicks Engine Co. I don't know when they stopped production. The sense that I get is that it was the early thirties. When I was a kid, 50 years ago, I heard of a "warehouse of Hick parts" in Benicia, CA. Never saw it though. |
