This is the same engine used in the 1901-1906 submarines. One was built in England, sold to Russia. While being scrapped about 1915 or so it sank in the English channel when under tow. A sub museum in England raised it 15 yrs ago and reported that the engine was not stuck, but the cast iron was crystallized from salt. This is the only one of these known to exist. The same engine was also built in a 2 cylinder vertical version. Made in Phila. PA by Otto.
