I am trying to wire this engine. On the starter there seems to be a connection for a larger wire directly on the casing. there is also a sileniod bolted to the starter with two smaller connections and what looks like a reset button. On top of the engine is the voltage reg. with amp, flow (which are hooked up) and batt. (which is open) The engine is 12 volt. Any ideas??? |

It sounds like you have a BENDIX starting system. They where used on ford cars, trucks,Massy harris tractors and many others in the 30's and forties.Your reset button is really a button to engage the selonid. The 2 small posts are connected(one on each side) to a push button,to engage the selonid. You should have one large post on the starter connect it to a big post on the selonid. The other big post goes to the battery. The regulator should have 3 posts ARM should go to the A or ARM post on the generator.Another post should be FIELD connect to F or FLD post on generator. The last is BAT connect to a good source going to the battery. |
