Hello folks,
I have just recently come accross an old sabb diesel engine, and I am looking for some information about it. On the name plate there is a "p" followed by "16" on it. (not sure what this is for.) There is also a serial number "2G63119c". It then says DAMSGAARD MOTOR FABRIK BERGEN/NORWAY. Just wondering if anyone has any general information on this engine or a manual for it (or where I could find a service manual on it), would be a great help.

I'd say it is a 2G.

As far as I know Sabb have discontinued everything to do with these older model engines.
There are some suppliers of NOS spare parts for a price.
Best to read through the other Sabb threads on this forum to get a better idea of what can be sourced and where to try. |

I agree it looks like a 2G, made in 1963, with a S/N 119. 22 HP @ 1800 RPM. In late 1970's new 2 G were still being sold= $5995.
You might talk to the North American dealer, Bill Miller (352) 589-2882 in Florida. 2nd choice -email= [email protected]. Talk to Bill on using 2H parts- they are available. The missing exhaust manifold/radiator tank is maybe $900 new.
If you are serious about rebuilding this, look through this site to buy a spare engine. |

1974 SABB 2HG For Sale
I have a 1974 SABB 2HG for sale that I am selling as parts but only because it is partially disassembled. The only issue is the starter flange is broken (see engine picture 2). The engine fell on its side years ago (2004) in the process of moving it during evaluation for Hurricane Ivan. I guess you could say the engine made it (but my Alberg 30 definitely did not). But there does not appear to be any internal damage. Email me if you are interested and I can provide any and all details. I would prefer to sell it to someone who would be committed to get it running again. I have several spare parts for it that I purchased from Bill Miller with SABB America. Bill had quoted around $2500.00 for a new front bearing housing (part# 2H23LC) which was too expensive for me. So email me if you are interested. |

Suggest you become a member so you can email directly to members of this site who were looking for Sabb parts. Even those who own 1 cylinder Sabb- a lot of interchange parts.
( I bought my 2 H spare parts engine- that use to run for $ 600 plus $800 for freight from Seattle to CT) I have recovered that at least 2-3 times) |

Yes, I was thinking about becoming a member as I am also considering keeping the engine if I could find a used front bearing housing (SABB part# 2H23LC). Finally, I do have access to various CNC mills and was also considering just machining a replacement housing. But would do you think this would lessen the value of the engine? |

I Have not met any Sabb owner that is using the engine as "original" equipment. We own one because it is" bullet proof" a WWII statement
So if you can make the housing , have at it. Hope you have the tolerance given the used crank |
