I've just taken over an abandonded restoration project with a 1960 Coventry Victor horizontally-opposed twin petrol, and was wondering whether the propellor shaft tube is always required to supply structural support to the cutlass bearing housing ? The existing tube and cutlass housing appear to have been screwed together at some time, but the tube would now have to be cut-out and repositioned to achieve this. Providing the cutlass bearing is adequately and independently secured to the skeg, would securing of the bearing housing to tube joint with a pad of epoxy be adequate ? As this is an underwater area, I don't want to screw up on this. TIA, Colin |

I have a Coventry Victor opposing twin that runs good but needs a gearbox to replace the sail clutch. Tring to stop the boat at a crouded dock without reverse can be hard on the old girl(aux power for a Shaw 24 Yawl 1958). My cutlass is not in good shape but I decided to leave it alone untill I find a replacement and a way to remove the old one without messing thinks up. You can contact me at: [email protected] |
