I was in a guy's shop yesterday that had some interesting engines. He had a small 4 cylinder horizontally opposed engine that looked exactly like a lycoming airplane engine, except it was alot smaller. He said it was a military engine and didn't know much about it. On the tag it said mfg by Chrysler Outboard. Can anyone tell me what this engine is and how much power it puts out, weighs, etc? I've been looking on the internet but can't find anything about it.

probably a drone engine. McCulloch built them by the millions for use during WW2. do a google image search under drone engine. |

Thanks, but no, he had some of those, they are two stroke and look like this http://www.barnstormers.com/EVENTS/040619/museum/133.jpg
The one I'm talking about is a 4 stroke, it had the valve guides on the top. I can't find anything on it. It looks like a mini lycoming 4 cyl. |

Do a search for "Lockwood Ash opposed", this was a two cylinder engine, sounds like what you describe, see if it's similar. |

Lockwood Motor Co Ltd. (post Ash) designed a horizontal opposed four cylinder four cycle outboard and assembled two or three prototypes in 1930 (the 30 HP "Flying Four"). This did not go into production. One of the protoype engines is still around, however, this still sounds like some kind of light duty powerplant and may have been some kind of general service version of Chrysler's engine, or it could be another protoptype-Kiekhafer Merc built some odd prototypes like this. photo would help |

hi itlooks like i was born in the wrong country i would think i were in heaven if iwere allowed in a paddock full of engines like that |
