I suspect that your best bet will be a dry sleeve. Since it's a 4 cycle engine you won't have to fuss with intake and exhaust ports. Most old school auto machine shops have to tools and skill. |

The cracks are on the inside wall? I've seen the outer wall of the water jacket repaired with JB Weld. In my case the inside wall was scored pretty bad so I had it sleeved. When the shop bored it for a sleeve, the lower reaches were dark meaning the corrosion was coming through. In your case it sounds like the cylinder might be thin from corrosion and yes Miro is correct the solution is to bore and sleeve it. As long as u have meat at the bottom to form a seal, and the water jacket holds water, you should be okay. If that works, keep antifreeze in at all times to stop further corrosion. If totally failed, I have always thought a new cylinder could be easily made from steel by a machine shop. Two thick tubes, two spacer rings, and a flange and some welding and machining. Keep us updated! |
