I'm normally an antique outboard guy but I have an opportunity to purchase this PNR2 which I believe is a 1927 and looks to be complete. The asking price is $500 and I have no idea if that is good or bad. Seems very reasonable to me. And a side question - might be a dumb question but why does this engine have a magneto and a distributor? OK, how to post pics? The serial number is 2368027 and the gearbox is present along with the manifold. Looks to be complete and turns over.

Scott,
If it is a "Salt Water" engine it's value is questionable. If so and it hasn't been properly stored (antifreeze in the water jackets) the Cylinders, heads and exhaust manifold are most likely unusable. If it is a "fresh water" engine and all the water jackets are good it is worth 500 but that is about all.
Many of these big old Palmers had dual ignition for dependability.
Click on my name at the left for my e-mail and send me the pics so I can post them for you.

Here are Scott's pics.
It appears to have been used in fresh water. It does not have the look of a salt water engine with crusty rust every where and the bottom of the water jackets appear to be in good condition.
Hope this helps
Ernie
