David, I think what you are looking for is a bronze shaft, not a brass shaft. A brass shaft would probably last , maybe 2 or 3 minutes before twisting off.
As an suggestion, you might want to consider a stainless steel shaft - they're just as good as bronze , do not corrode and are certainly less costly than a bronze shaft.
