Hello, I know there has been past postings on cooling water entering the engine when the exhaust manifold (or its gasket) fails. However, I would like to get your expertise on what are other possible causes of water in the oil. I assume that one other is a failed head. Is another possibility water could be pushed into the engine at the water pump? My water pump spun a bearing and then I found water in my oil when I was changing it for the spring. Thanks for any insight into this. |

Hi Matthew, Sorry to hear that you got water into your oil. There are almost endless possibilities on how it got there. Just think of everywhere water is in your engine, and how it can get from there to the oil. - cracked head - cracked manifold - hole in cylinder wall - crack in the block - failed head gasket - backflow from exhaust - blow by through water pump (difficult) - spray or flow in - from engine room via carb The problem is that it is virtually impossible to get the water out of the oil without taking the engine apart. It sticks to many places like the oil pump, piston pins and bearings. Even after several oil flushes and changes there will still be milky oil/water residue in these places. It is something to take seriously as it can destroy your engine from the inside. David Grosse David's Yacht Service |
