Beware of one of the internet scam that involves an offer to buy whatever you are selling for more than the asking price... It is a very common scam that occurs with newspaper classifieds as well as Internet classifieds. There was an article in our local paper about someone from England offering to buy a car in Vermont for more than the asking price. Same deal... the buyer issues a bad check for more that the amount owed and demands quick payment from you for the difiference, you send them your payment, usually by Western Union, before you discover that their check is bad. The reason for the overpayment is usually that they are acting as an agent for the buyer, or shipping charges, or whatever.

This scam has apparently been attempted with items for sale on our classifieds site. It is somewhat suprising that anyone would use it on our site because there is not way to "harvest" the email addresses. Each ad would have to be responded to individually.

Anyway, can't imagine anyone falling for, but just in case... beware.

Regards, Andrew

Andrew this is a common scam, I have been emailed and called with this offer at least 10 times. That and the Africa scam I receive by email 3 to 5 times everyday. I was also offered a very nice motor from Romania. The seller wanted me to send the money with a password stating that Western Union would not release the money without this password. I called Western Union and spoke to their frauds division manager. They do not hold money, once you send it its gone. The password thing is BS. Just beware. There is risk on all long distance transactions
