I pulled the carburetor off my 1971 Palmer 60 aboard a Morgan 30 sailboat. I'm wondering if I might get some help ID-ing this carb for the purpose of sourcing the correct rebuild kit. I read in other threads that a kit for the Zenith 61 should do it (available through Napa?), but this carb doesn't look like the Zenith 61. It appears more like a 68 or even the 267, based upon my searches on the internet. I may be way off, however, so thank you for your patience and insight.

Many P-60 owners replace the Zenith 61 series with a Zenith 68 series carburetor. You might check with Moyer Marine. They handle aftermarket items for Atomic 4 engines but they can help with carburetors and thermostats on a P-60 |

David,
There are two big differences. The old carb, like yours is steel, and has the large idle jet outside. The newer version is aluminum, and does not have the outside idle jet adjustment.
Also, the snorkel on the spark arrester is not readily available, but is necessary for the Palmer 60. The Atomic 4's do not use one.
I recommend you rebuild the one you have. Let me know if you can't find a kit for it.
Also, let me know if you are not going to re-use it, as I could use it.

Thank you for the reply. So does my carb appear to be a 61 or 68 series - or does that not matter? I'm assuming it's the same rebuild kit regardless, right?
I plan to reuse it. It's working well, but I have a slightly erratic idle, and I thought rebuilding the carb would eliminate one likely source. Additionally, I have a fuel leak at the outside jet adjustment. |

It is not a 68. That is the newer one.
They use different kits, because the fuel bowls have a different shape, so the main gasked is not interchangeable.
I thought the old carb was a series 62 rather than 61, but I will need to confirm that.

For the record, Don Moyer, of Moyer Marine, indicated that this is the correct rebuild kit for my carburetor: Product No. - FCAR_04_55, available from Moyer Marine for $97.44. Do you stock a rebuild kit, David Grosse?
