After several years of delay, I got to working on the old boat again.
Here are some pictures of the engine bed.
It's white oak, and bolted as an assembly
so I could take it apart when I was fitting it.
And fitting it does require.
When i got the boat there was no bed and no clues
as to where the original engine bed was except
for the oil soaked planking.
The bed will be attached to the hull with
stainless steel lag screws.
Based on some testing I did last year on another
old boat , I reckon the thrust of the prop to be about 35-40 lbs. So I am confident that the engine bed will be OK
Here is the bed installed in the boat
It will still require the engine and the shaft to
be aligned - another step that will need patience and persistence.
I hope to have the mechanical systems fitted this year so that the boat can be driven to a launch
ramp so that I can get it onto a trailer and into the shop ( right now it's in the old boathouse).
By then it will be winter and works stops.
Next year the decking, flooring and finally finishing will be done.

Boat looks Good too !
Reminded me of my old (1904} Chaloupe Vercheres
17" St Lawrtence Skiff.

Looks good Miro, should hold the engine with no problem. The twins ar a lot smoother than the singles. What do use use for a bedding compound?

I am using SikaFlex as the bedding compound.
Some say that once it has set it's almost impossible to get apart, yet retains some flexibility
My previous experience is that is does a really good job of holding things together and keeping water out of the boat.
I guess time will only tell.
