Hi Richard, What has been the earliest year you have seen the Model R engines? More specifically the 135 HP six cylinder. The full line May 1914 catalog show pretty much the same line as show above in your 1916 posting. Keep em coming! Cheers, Lew |

Interesting to note the 10 HP Model E engines show iron and aluminum for the crankcase. Mine is bronze with polished aluminum covers. From looking at other Sterling posts here on OME I guess the bronze crankcase went away fairly early.

The first reference to the Model E that I see is in 1915. And unfortunately there is no mention of base material. That bronze crank case is amazing! |
