I know where there's a Vulcan hulk lying in Vancouver BC. I wondered how it got there and now I know! Rose & Wenborn of Steveston was probably the Wenborn Family out of Nanaimo. The Wrigley's Directory for 1920 says their business was "gasoline engines." There are several Robert James Wenborns. One died 1944 at 85 and one at 38 in 1952, and one was born in Nanaimo in 1887 to a father of the same name, who was probably the man who died in 1944 as he married in 1886. The partner Rose is probably the same man who was a partner in the Ben-Sid engine venture; Sidney Rose was his name without checking my notes. The Ben-Sid engine design was reportedly "pirated" by Japanese interests and reproduced there with a very minor changes to avoid certain patents. I haven't found any Canadian Patents to that name however. Perhaps the Japanese-made copy was sold to Japanese fisherman on the West coast also. |
