Does it have an optional factory thermo-guard installed ?? Strive for 140 to 180 depending on how hard the engine is being run with out the thermo-guard. Thermo-guard equipped engines maintain 160 to 170 by returning warm discharge water to mix with incoming water. Salt water cooled engines strive for 140 max to avoid salt deposits on engine cooling internals. Source: 1950 Graymarine owners manual |

Thank you, Bruce, for your reply. The engine does not have a thermo-guard installed. The boat is a small 17 ft runabout and run on a cold mountain lake in Montana in the summer. Should it have a thermo-gard on the head? I am not sure what that would do. |
