Hi, I have recently bought a converted trawler with a Kelvin T4.
The outside of the engine looks rough...inside I found to be shiny bright.
It was or still is seized, I put a shackle pin in the hole in the fly wheel and gave it a clout with a big hammer, it moves a few mil back and forth.
I think it is in gear and the prop shaft is seized.

I wonder if I can take something off the gear box and knock it out of gear? Any bright ideas?

The inside of the gear box can be seen from an inspection plate on the top, it looks OK but there is no oil in the box.

Well that's about it, advice welcome, early days.

I think it is not in gear because the gear box works on pressure so when you stop the engine the pressure drops and it goes into neutral.
Soaking in diesel now.
