Hello all

My first post to try and find out a bit more about the engine and boat my dad has owned since the 1970's. A 16ft double diagonal mahogany runabout with a Gray marine engine - model 4-30, engine number 486-A.

As far as I can tell its from betwwe 1928 -1933. Any tips on where to find our more and where to source a replacement exhaust manifold?

I can send pictures if that would help.

Any assistance would be much appreciated!

My 1932 Gray engine catalog sheet lists the Utility Series Model 4-20. In the description ,it mentions the models 4-25 and Model 4-30 being in the 1929 to 1931 year catalogs. If 485-A is in fact the serial number; this 4-30,I expect to be an early 1929 model engine.

Hi Bruce

Thanks for the swift response! That's really useful.

I have double checked the plate, the one on the gearbox definitely says 486-A - see attached picture if that helps.

Any ideas on where to source a new exhaust manifold would be gratefully received.

Also a mystery as to how it ended up in the UK on the Thames near wallingford in the 1970's where it was rescued. But that's one I doubt we will ever solve!

Thanks again

Best Regards

Doug
